Notes 8: Type ahead mail addressing

I hope many of you have already downloaded the Notes 8 Beta, installed it, and are busy reporting your findings!

So far I think my favourite feature is the new style for type-ahead mail addressing.   It is very "Gmail-like" and that is a good thing!   Not only does it find matches for the characters I enter, but it moves the most recently used entries to the top of the list.

I recognised this from the Sametime 7.5 search field. I assume it is a feature of the new Expeditor platform? The ordering of the list based on most used is a nice touch.

    Hi

I know this is not a the place to clear my doubts, that to on a blog. But i could not find a better place than this.

My doubt is, is there any load simulator for the Lotus domino server and lotus notes mail clients, one similar to the Microsoft's LoadSim?

  4. Alan Lepofsky
    4 | 3/13/2007 6:44:57 AM

Yes, there is. Server.Load is a capacity-planning tool that you use to run tests, also called "scripts" and "workloads," against a targeted Domino server to measure server capacity and response metrics. You can find all the information you need in the Domino Administration Help database.

    Dear Alan;

I need your valuable recommendations about a serious, big case which is Domino Organization Rename.

Which is the smoothest way for this case?

    Best Regards

    Hi *,

is there anyone in the Universe who can shortly explain how to disable this function or clear the "type-ahead-cache".

These wrong "type-ahead"-entries driving me nuts :-))

    Best regards

    Marc

    I answer my own question:

    File|Preferences|Locations|"Your Location|MAIL

    -> Recipient Name Type-Ahead

There you can enable or disable this function.

But where I can reset the Type-Ahead-Cache

Kindly regards from the sunny Germany

    Marc

Marc, you can delete the documents in your personal address book's "Recent Contacts" view. Make sure to delete from the correct view, not your "My Contacts" view.

    Alan,

We also want to delete 'wrong' entries from recent contacts, but when we try it tells us "you can not delete recent contacts" - we've also seen IBM documentation saying you cannot delete these entries - are we missng something? We are using 8 client, but at the moment a 7 backend. Thanks, Andy.

Andrew, deleting Recent Contacts, as well as promoting them into "full" contacts is planned for 8.0.1.

How utilize type-ahead in mail8 (web)?

    its possible?

    thanks

  13. Alan Lepofsky
    13 | 1/10/2008 8:30:49 AM

Hi Edson, I don't beleive DWA has type-ahead at the moment. Instead you can bring up the name address dialog box. Perhaps you can create a feature request (if one does not already exist) on IdeaJam!

Type ahead can be deleted deleting cashe.ndk in data folder of Lotus Notes. When you delete this file, Lotus will create new cashe file.

Deleting the cache.ndk file did not work - any other suggestions for clearing the type-ahead list

    16 | 3/4/2008 3:02:09 PM

what exactly do you mean by "clearing" the list? Do you want no names to show up? Or there are certain names you no longer what there? Or? And what version of Notes?

I don't know if you can completely deactivate type-ahead. But what you can do is change the setting "Activate recepient name type-ahead" from "On each character" to "On Delimiter". Can I ask why you don't want type-ahead?

Scott, not sure what you mean by "Type ahead - that cannot be easily deleted refreshed". Sorry to hear about your move though. Please feel free to report back here in a few years after your migration, and let me know what you think of your new system.

Alan, I think he means this: { Link } . I'm not sure if this was changed in 8.0.1.

Yes, that was changed in 8.0.1, I guess they can stop their Exchange migration now.

i m trying to delete what comes up in type ahead feature. deleteing cache.ndk did not work, after deleting it, lotus automatically create a new file but wrong addresses from before are still showing up when type in new emails.

  24. Alan Lepofsky
    24 | 6/16/2008 9:50:16 PM

Starting with 8.0.1 you can go into the Recent Contacts view of your Contacts (names.nsf) and you can delete an entry, or propogate it to a full contact.

Thanks, it works. I just upgraded a client to 8.01 from 8.0 and was able to delete it fine.

i have another question. most of users have clients 8.0 but in domino it shows up as users have older version of client (6.5.3) I checked user's PCs and they do have new version of the client. any ideas on how to udpate the server?

    26 | 6/18/2008 8:13:45 AM

Sam, check what access level users have to the adminp.nsf on the server. I think the dynamic client config process has to have access to create documents in order to start the process which updates the information in the name and address book. Here is a tech note that seems close: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21095309

Thanks, I am a new person to the Domino/lotus world and is in the process of taking over domino administration process. so gets lots of irky questions from users. One issue I have been running into lately is that users running out of space and once i run the archieve and create space on client, it does not get updated on server, it usually only happens on the next day. is there any way manually speed up the synch between the client and server. also i synch the local replica to make sure that is not causing the issue.

Hi Sam, welcome to the Domino world. I'd like to ask that you please use the Notes/Domino forums (you can find them under key resources in the menus at the top) for your questions. That was a) you can first search to see if your question has already been answered. b) Multiple people will be able to respond to you, not just me. c) More people will benefit from the answers.

    Thanks.

Hi Alan. I have Notes 8.0.1.

That recipient type ahead drop-down has suddenly disappeared. It used to work fine till a few days back. Now it just gives me one name in the To box. Is there some setting through which I can get that drop-down back?

It was a nice feature and I miss it!

I don't know of any feature that controls this. Is it working again, or still broken? Had you made any changes to your location document before it stopped working?

Hi! question, we have users who just migrated from other email domain to our domain and so the problem is their old email address still apprears in the type ahead box in which our users mistakenly sends their message to it unconsiously.. Can you please spare us some advices on how to delete the old/wrong email address in their type ahead? Or is there a script where we can push it to the server to fix it seemlessly?

Everytime I disconnect from my network the "Recipient name type-ahead" reverts back to "Local Only". When I reconnect I have to go back in and switch it back to "Local then Server". This is really annoying everytime I undock my laptop. Any idea how to fix this so "Local then Server" persists? Thank you

@34, I'm sorry I've not seen that behaviour, as I've only ever used local, even when connected. I suggest contracting support, and letting them know what version of Notes you are using, and on what OS.

Hi, Alan, typeahead stop working for me and my teammates since we are in version 8.5.2

For users that are still in version 8.5.1 it works fine.

I'll call to IBM to open a PMR
